The Biennale Jogja began in 1988 and has become one of the most robust and consistent visual arts events in Indonesia. It is also renowned as an arts event that has given rise to some of today’s leading Indonesian artists. The Biennale Jogja XI 2011 will be held from 26 November 2011 – 8 January 2012.

Established on 23 August 2010, Yayasan Biennale Yogyakarta is the official institute that houses the Biennale Jogja. Based on principles of professionalism, transparency and accountability, Yayasan Biennale Yogyakarta ensures continuity of the Biennale Jogja.

In sharp competition with other major biennales around the world, Biennale Jogja’s reputation entered a new phase in the world of international contemporary art in 2011. In 10 years time, the Biennale Jogja will be known as the Equator Biennale, working in the tropical region between the north and south latitudes of 23.27 degrees. The Biennale will work in partnership with one country at a time starting with India this year in the Biennale Jogja XI.

We are thrilled with the Biennale’s reputation and vital role in promoting the cultural richness of Indonesia at an international level. Each Biennale has been held thanks to the commitment and generosity of private donors and patrons who have helped realize this exciting event and who in turn enjoy the relationship gained from this support.

Biennale Jogja XI is organized by Yayasan Biennale Yogyakarta and supported by the Yogyakarta Provincial Government and the Indonesian Department of Culture and Tourism.

Support an Artist
Contribute to the Biennale Jogja by supporting one or more artists to come to Yogyakarta.

Non Financial Support
Support the Biennale by contributing materials for workshops or by providing consumption for hard working volunteers. You can also contribute to the needs of exhibitions and supporting events in other ways or become a volunteer. There are many ways to support the Biennale Jogja. Please contact us.

Sahabat Biennale Jogja / Friends of Biennale Jogja
Friends of Biennale Jogja will gain experience with Biennale artists and attend Biennale exhibition previews along with other important guests.
