Broken Pitch x Juanga Culture
(Yogyakarta/Maluku Utara)
Broken Pitch (based in Yogyakarta) is an independent playground utilized by multidisciplinary artists to collaborate in presenting artistic activities. This activity can achieve and respond to the dynamic contextual and aesthetic developments. Opening its playground in 2020, Broken Pitch now regularly organizes various monthly activities, in collaboration with various artists (either individuals or collectives) and spaces (either private or public) in the form of exhibitions and performing art. As a performative playground that relies on collaboration, both artistically and institutionally, Broken Pitch is designed to be open and flexible to the public.
Juanga Culture (established in 2012) is the cultural home for Moloku Kie Raha (North Maluku), and a place for art and culture practitioners from North Maluku who are currently working or creating in Yogyakarta. The platform is named after a legendary ship of the Moloku Kie Raha people in Tidore, Juanga, which was given by Sultan Al Mansyur to two missionaries to help them spread Christianity in Papua. Thus, the name Juanga Culture is used to unite the differences within the ship (home). By organizing artistic activities such as parades and exhibitions, this cultural home represents the expansion of North Maluku culture.
