The curatorial ideas and visions of the Biennale Jogja XVI are targeted at the intersection of archipelagic culture; migration and transnationalization; memory, cosmology, and situated knowledge; climate justice and landscape change; readings on modernization and spirituality. All those are communicated through various artistic media. One of them is cinema.
Cinema, as an art medium with the ability to explore the elements of time without limits, can express an articulate perspective and record slices of life and experiences of Oceania and Indonesia.
Cinema Oceania is screened every weekend thanks to partnership with the Eastern Indonesian film community, Papuan Voices and the Sumbawa Film Festival. It can be watched live in a limited Cinema Oceania room with limited audiences and adhering to health protocols. In addition, there will also be a discussion forum on examining cinema as a medium for communicating ideas and expressions.
