Marlinda Nau

Often called Mama Fun (1982, Mollo, Timor), she is a mother of 3 children who is very interested in local food. Over the past 3 years, Mama Fun has joined Lakoat.Kujawas, a community that was born in response to the limited access to local knowledge for the younger generation in Molo, Timor. In the last 2 years, Mama Fun has been actively conducting experiments on local food and was appointed as the coordinator of local food in Lakoat.Kujawas.  After seeing how positive changes occurred in her child after joining Lakoat.Kujawas, Mama Fun felt moved and invited some of her friends to join the community.

Mollo is a highland with low rainfall. This condition forces residents to be good at managing forest food because in the rainy season food is difficult to obtain.  So, the rainy season becomes an opportunity to collect food, including materials obtained from the forest. Poisonous peanuts are one of the processing products that Mama Fun echoes.  The processing is carried out 13 times by boiling so that the beans can turn edible.

At the Biennale Jogja XVI Equator #6 2021, Mama Fun represented her community in various agendas and held residencies in several places and collectives in Yogyakarta. There are at least 6 activities that involve her: attending the opening ceremony;  talking with Anang Saptoto, traveling to independent processing areas in various places and the Panen Apa Hari Ini group;  speaking at the Biennale Forum, anjangsana (visiting) to Pagesangan School, anjangsana (visiting) to Kunci and met the Bakudapan Food Study Group;  and talk and share knowledge at the Tiban market, Kotagedhe.

At the end of the residency, apart from cooking, Mama Fun also introduced some Mollo specialties, such as corn bose with lu’at chili sauce, moringa green bean soup & cassava vegetables, because the Mollo people are very close to cassava plants.
