Research Team of Y.B. Mangunwijaya Room (Indonesia-Yogyakarta)
The room is to present to redefine the intellectual legacy of Y.B. Mangunwijaya, an important clergy and cultural practitioner from Indonesia. The spectrum of his legacy will unfold through the archive, findings, literature, and artworks. The main literature used to reread his though was from a novel titled “Ikan-Ikan Hiu, Ido, Homa (1983)”; “Wastu Citra (1988)”; “Menuju Republik Indonesia Serikat (1998)”. From those three books, Romo Mangun’s ideas about colonialism in the archipelagic region, alternative knowledge system, and political decentralization, still became relevant to see and read today.
We are able to present Y.B. Mangunwijaya room thanks to several institution, community and individual supporting this project: Laboratorium of History, Theory, Technology and Design Studies FAD-UKDW, Yayasan Dinamika Edukasi Dasar, Pusat Dokumentasi Arsitektur (Architecture Documentation Centre), Bondan Petra Dipenogoro, Linda Oktavia, Patrick Manurung, Tito Hendrata.

Through Y.B. Mangunwijaya Room, the visitors are expected to be able to explore the perspectives on decolonization, politics of knowledge and imagination on decentralization which remain relevant to be discussed when linked to various problems unfolding in the eastern Indonesian archipelago up to the regions of Oceania. This perspective also allows people to reconstruct their memories regarding the way to read the heritage of Y.B. Mangunwijaya in the midst of the ongoing issues of gentrification and the increasingly pragmatic architectural education as well as the urban cultural context that surrounds it.
Y.B. Mangunwijaya Room was established with the support and assistance from various parties, namely institutions, communities, and individuals.
