Indonesia Art Movement (Jayapura)
The Indonesia Art Movement (IAM) was initiated by Iam Murda in 2016. IAM is a community to embrace creative youths in Jayapura who truly appreciate the development of traditional and urban arts and culture in forms such as performing arts, fine arts, and films. IAM was established to answer concerns over the lack of adequate infrastructure, arts facilities, and supportive industrial ecosystems.
Cross-disciplinary works in various aspects of art is an important strategy to build networks among various youth communities in order to enable them to discuss issues of Papuan local identity critically and progressively. IAM organizes art projects based on everyday culture of young people to build bridges between Papuan youth and their surroundings.
IAM has held numerous performances, including: Hop Hope Papua, Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Jakarta (2019); Numbay Creative Festival (NCF) music concert, Taman Imbi Kota (City’s Imbi Park) Jayapura (2019); and Pesta Damai Papua (Papua Peace Party), Hotel Horison Kotaraja, Jayapura (2019).

Normally, Identity Cards have an important role in the daily lives of Indonesian people who are always faced with bureaucratic problems. However, such a condition does not apply to Papuans. In fact, up to present, there are still many Papuans who do not want to have either a family card nor official identity card.
In Papua, when people want to apply for public services, register themselves as voters, or buy a plane ticket, they often borrow others’ identity cards or forge one. This reality confirms the anecdote that most Indonesians cannot distinguish the faces of native Papuans. Such an anecdote presents a sickening reality that there is still a stereotype towards native Papuans in Indonesia. The act of borrowing others’ identity cards or forging ones ironically morphs into a strategy to deal with the corrupt and inefficient bureaucrats who people have to face on a daily basis.
